Privacy policy
Effective August 4, 2026. This policy explains what Metal Detector Nerd collects, why, and what you can do about it.
Who we are
Metal Detector Nerd ("we", "us") operates the website at metaldetectornerd.com. For any privacy question, contact privacy@metaldetectornerd.com.
Information we collect
Information you give us. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it to reply and nothing else.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our hosting and analytics providers may record your IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, referring page, the pages you view, and the time and date of your visit.
Cookies and similar technologies. Cookies are small files stored by your browser. We and our third-party partners use them for analytics, for affiliate attribution, and for advertising.
How we use information
To operate and secure the site, to understand which articles are useful so we can write more of them, to attribute affiliate referrals correctly, to serve advertising, and to respond when you contact us.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not build advertising profiles ourselves — where profiling occurs it is done by the third-party networks described below, under their own policies.
Affiliate links
This site contains affiliate links, including links to Amazon.com through the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. When you click one, the retailer may set a cookie that records the referral so any resulting purchase is credited to us. That cookie is set and read by the retailer, not by us, and is governed by their privacy policy.
We do not receive your name, address, payment details, or order contents — only aggregate reporting about referred purchases. See our affiliate disclosure for the commercial side of this.
Analytics
We use third-party analytics services to understand aggregate site usage. These providers process data such as page views, approximate location derived from IP address, device and browser information, and referral sources. Configuration and retention are governed by each provider's policy.
Third-party advertising
This site may display advertising served by third-party ad networks and their partners. These networks may use cookies, web beacons, device identifiers, and similar technologies to collect information about your visits here and on other websites in order to serve advertising relevant to your interests, to cap ad frequency, and to measure ad performance.
Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website. You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google via Google Ads Settings, and from many other vendors via the DAA opt-out tool or the NAI opt-out tool.
Where required, a consent banner is presented before non-essential cookies are set, and you can change or withdraw your choice at any time through that banner.
Legal bases (EEA/UK visitors)
Where the GDPR applies, we process data on these bases: consent for non-essential cookies, analytics, and personalized advertising; legitimate interests for site security, fraud prevention, and aggregate usage measurement; and contract or legitimate interests for responding to your enquiries.
Your rights
EEA/UK (GDPR). You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, the right to data portability, and the right to withdraw consent at any time. You may also lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.
California (CCPA/CPRA). You have the right to know what personal information is collected and how it is used and shared, the right to delete it, the right to correct it, and the right to opt out of its sale or sharing for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not sell personal information for money. To exercise the right to opt out of sharing for advertising purposes, use the consent banner or contact us. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
To make a request, email privacy@metaldetectornerd.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting.
Data retention
Email correspondence is kept only as long as needed to handle your enquiry and any follow-up. Analytics data is retained according to each provider's configured retention period. Cookie lifespans are set by the party that places them.
Children's privacy
This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
International transfers
This site is operated from the United States and our service providers may process data in the United States and elsewhere. Where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS and we take reasonable measures to protect the limited information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top will change, and material changes will be noted on this page.
