Falcon Metal Detectors

One product, one job: hearing gold nobody else can.

Falcon makes high-frequency gold probes and essentially nothing else. The MD20 is the product the company is known for, and it occupies a genuinely useful niche: finding gold flakes in quartz and crevices that standard pinpointers are simply deaf to.

This is a specialist tool from a specialist maker. Judged as a general pinpointer it's poor — not waterproof, no discrimination — but that's not what it's for.

01What Falcon is known for

  • Very high operating frequencies, which is what makes small gold audible.
  • Scraping tips designed to work into rock crevices and quartz seams.
  • A strong reputation among prospectors specifically, rather than general detectorists.
  • No waterproofing, and no pretence of being a general-purpose probe.

The verdict

Buy Falcon if you prospect for gold and work material by hand. For anything else, buy a waterproof general pinpointer instead.

Falcon FAQ

Are Falcon gold probes worth it?
For gold prospecting, yes — the MD20 genuinely finds flakes that standard pinpointers miss. For general detecting, no: it isn't waterproof and it's far too sensitive for trashy ground.
Is a Falcon probe a metal detector?
It's a handheld probe rather than a full detector — range is an inch or two, so it's used for examining material and crevices by hand, not for searching ground.
